- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- Curry leaves (a few)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
- Salt to taste

**For the Batter:**
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- A pinch of baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Water (enough to make a thick batter)
