Masala idli is a delicious and flavorful variation of traditional idli, where the idlis are infused with a spicy and aromatic tempering. Here's a simple recipe to make masala idli:

Ingredients:
- 8-10 idlis (leftover or freshly steamed)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- Handful of chopped coriander leaves
- 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions:
1. If using leftover idlis, cut them into bite-sized pieces. If using freshly steamed idlis, let them cool slightly before cutting.

2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.

3. Add asafoetida (hing) and grated ginger. Saute for a few seconds until fragrant.

4. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn translucent.

5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.

7. Add the bite-sized idli pieces to the pan. Toss gently to coat the idlis with the masala.

8. Sprinkle garam masala powder and chopped coriander leaves on top. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

9. Once the idlis are well-coated with the masala and heated through, remove from heat.

10. Serve masala idli hot with a side of coconut chutney or tomato chutney.
