foolproof dark chocolate
Here's a recipe for
foolproof dark chocolate fudge, a decadent and easy-to-make treat:
Ingredients:
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
- 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips (use a fairly good quality chip for best results)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Pan:
- Line an 8x8 inch or 9x9 inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, allowing the excess foil to overhang the edges (for easy lifting later). Lightly grease the foil with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
-
Combine Wet Ingredients:
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate chips are melted and smooth.
-
Adding Salt and Flavorings (Optional):
- Remove the pan from heat and stir in the salt. If using, you can also add the chopped walnuts and vanilla extract at this point. Fold them in gently until just combined.
-
Pour and Set:
- Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the prepared baking pan. Spread it evenly using a spatula.
-
Cooling and Cutting:
- Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature for several hours, or refrigerate for at least 2 hours until firm.
-
Cutting and Serving:
- Once the fudge is set, use the overhanging foil to lift it out of the pan. Peel off the foil and cut the fudge into squares using a sharp knife.
Tips:
- For a richer chocolate flavor, you can use a combination of semisweet and dark chocolate chips.
- If the fudge seems too thick while stirring in the saucepan, add a tablespoon or two of milk and continue stirring until smooth. Be careful not to add too much milk, or the fudge may not set properly.
- To add another layer of flavor and texture, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the top of the fudge before it cools completely.
- For a fun twist, try adding chopped dried fruit, crushed peppermint candies, or mini marshmallows to the fudge.
- Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Enjoy making and indulging in this delicious foolproof dark chocolate fudge!
