Spring rolls
Spring rolls are a delicious and popular appetizer or light meal that can be made with wonton wrappers. They are filled with a variety of ingredients, such as vegetables, meat, and seafood, and then fried or baked until crispy.
Here's a basic recipe for making spring rolls with wonton wrappers:
Ingredients:
- 1 package (30-36) wonton wrappers
- 1/2 cup chopped cabbage
- 1/2 cup chopped carrots
- 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup chopped cooked shrimp (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped cooked chicken (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped cooked pork (optional)
- 1/4 cup bean sprouts
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 bowl of warm water
Instructions:
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine cabbage, carrots, bell pepper, green onions, shrimp (if using), chicken (if using), pork (if using), bean sprouts, and cilantro. Drizzle with soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and vegetable oil. Toss to coat.
- Wrap the spring rolls: Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Brush the edges with water. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper up over the filling. Then fold in the sides of the wrapper. Roll up the wrapper tightly, starting from the bottom. Moisten the top edge of the wrapper with water to seal.
- Cook the spring rolls: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the spring rolls and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain the spring rolls on paper towels. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet and sour sauce, chili garlic sauce, or peanut sauce.
