Gaelic coffee,
Gaelic coffee, also sometimes called Irish coffee (though technically that's a specific drink with Irish whiskey), is a warm and boozy coffee drink that's perfect for a cold day or after a long meal. It's made with hot coffee, whiskey, sugar, and a thick layer of cream on top.
Here's what you'll need to make a Gaelic coffee:
- Ingredients:
- 4 ounces brewed coffee
- 1-2 teaspoons brown sugar (or simple syrup)
- 1.5 ounces Scotch whisky
- Heavy cream, for floating
- Instructions:
- Preheat a heat-resistant glass mug or Irish coffee glass by filling it with hot water and letting it sit for a minute or two. Discard the water.
- Add the brown sugar (or simple syrup) to the preheated mug.
- Pour in the Scotch whisky and stir it gently to dissolve the sugar.
- Carefully pour the hot coffee into the mug, making sure not to disturb the whisky layer.
- Top the coffee with a layer of heavy cream. You can use a spoon to gently pour the cream over the back of another spoon to create a clean separation between the coffee and cream.
- Enjoy your Gaelic coffee!
